LVMPD Lieutenant Jack Clements of the Central Robbery Section, and Lieutenant Dan McGrath of the Homicide Section, met with members of the media today to discuss additional details about a suspect believed responsible for a homicide and a series of robberies that have occurred to businesses.
Beginning on January 7, 2017 a string of eight robberies occurred to businesses primarily located on the East side of the Las Vegas valley. The suspect would enter the business, display a handgun and demand cash. The suspect is bi-lingual in English and Spanish as he made demands in both languages. In one of the events, a customer was also robbed. In two of the events, the suspect fired one round inside of the businesses. In a robbery that occurred on January 16, the suspect fired multiple rounds at employees in the business, narrowly missing one of the employees.
Press releases for some of these robberies were sent to media along with photos and video in an attempt to identify the suspect. He was described as a Hispanic male in his 20’s, standing 5’6” to 5’9” tall and had a thin build. He used a dark bandana to cover the lower half of his face, and in some of the events he was seen wearing dark frame eyeglasses.
On January 21, 2017 at approximately 7:05 a.m. LVMPD patrol officers were dispatched to a bar located in the 1600 block of North Nellis Boulevard to investigate a shooting inside the business. Arriving officers located an unresponsive adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. A female victim, who was an employee, was also shot. The male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel. The female was transported to the UMC Trauma Center with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
The investigation initiated by the LVMPD Homicide Section indicated there was some type of argument and physical confrontation between the victim and the suspect inside the bar prior to the shooting. Detectives discovered the suspect left the bar but returned soon after with a handgun and shot the victim multiple times. The female employee is believed to have been hit by gunfire unintentionally.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined the suspect in the robberies is the same suspect wanted in connection with the homicide.
Detectives seek assistance from the more than 30 people who were present during the time of the incident to help identify the shooter and piece together the course of events. Witnesses who have not been interviewed by a detective are asked to come forward and help with this investigation.
